Kinja'd!!! "Phyrxes once again has a wagon!" (phyrxes)

On my way to work today the right low beam decided that it was done and failed. I am staring at bulb choices online trying to figure out what to order.

2005 V70 non turbo.

Looks like Sylvania H11 or H11XV is the direct replacement according to AutoZone. Any insight before I order off Amazon this morning?

Edit: Update for the evening crowd, I have directions but would love a video before I decide to hand this off due to what looks to be a PITA and me having no time due to kiddos.

H11's suck, H4's for the win!

It is a bitch and a half to replace the headlight bulbs without removing a bunch of stuff. Go for a direct fit led replacement. They last a lot longer as long as the fan doesnt out. I have had mine installed for 2 years.

H11 looks right. Instructions are here: http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/2005/2005_V70/05v70_08a.htm#pg135 No idea how much of a pain it is. They recommend removing the washer filler tube for the passenger side (they also say something about a tube you can break off and discard).

Haven’t had to do mine in the S60 yet, in the S40 the only hard thing was getting the rubber caps back on behind the bulbs.

Yeah this isn’t looking to be very fun, going to call the Volvo shop and see what their price for me not to deal with this is.

Looks like a similar setup my Saab 9-3 has. It’s a pain but manageable.

Unless it’s a ford that only uses the low-beam part of those and has a seperate H3 for high-beams, becuz, so euro, yo?

I had a headlight go out yesterday (or at least noticed it yesterday) in my Odyssey. I went ahead and changed them both at the same time. Might not be a bad idea in your case, since you’ve got the hood up. Then you can hold on to the working one in case of emergency.

It’s not hard.

H11 XV - the XV is their ‘XtraVision’ version which is brighter but has a much shorter lifespan than the normal bulb. Great if you drive in dark rural areas, but if you drive in well-lit urban areas you may want the normal ones instead.

For the passenger side you just remove the ECU cover and you have access from the looks of it.

Second this. I always change both at once and keep a used but working bulb in my trunk kit in case of emergency. The odds of needing it are stupidly low but it doesn’t take up much space or weight to keep around.

I got stopped twice on a drive home late at night for a dead headlight. If I had a spare I would stopped and put it in.

I’m not sure if that is any better than the air filter removal for the drivers side bulb, nice packaging guys.

Both look like they would take all of 5 minutes. Bring it by, I’ll do it for you. These cars are put together like Legos, everything clicks together.

Gainesville, it would be a hike but probably worth it as I may have the time. Let me get back back to you.

Shoot me an email at the first word of my username @ gmail.com and we can see if schedules work. I’d rather not pay 20 bucks in labor per bulb as its rated as a 15 minute job. It also means amazon bulbs are fine and I can get two for 17 instead of that for one.
